Here’s a big question I want you to ask yourself.  If your business was really in trouble, would you know it?

What about if you were slightly off course in your freelance marketing?  Even if your gut was sort of discernible, being a little off course could be enough to send you miles away from you intended goal.

That might not seem like a big deal until you factor in the tough things that can happen while you’re off course. Imagine you’re flying an airplane for the first time, but you were sloppy with understanding what the numbers on the panel mean. You could assume what they mean and think you’re on track, but you really have no idea what’s going on.

By trusting your gut and not understanding what’s going on around you, your business could be hurdling towards the earth and you wouldn’t know it.  Everything “feels” right to you, but the situation is dire.  To survive on you own, you would need to have a good understanding of the key indicators that tell you exactly where you are and how you’re doing.

ACTUAL numbers, not GUT feelings, assumptions, or even wishful thinking. What if a storm came in suddenly?  Or you suddenly found yourself running out of fuel, but were nowhere near the landing strip?  In business and economic terms, you could be coasting by, thinking everything is great, but a slightly-off-course way of operating may not be discernable

Many business owners are not naturally number-and-accounting-minded. We often think there are more important things to pay attention to, like excellent customer service, marketing, and delivering a high-quality product or service.

While it is a good idea to look up and take in the state of the business as a whole, if you are not regularly checking your numbers, your key indicators, your freelance marketing goals could be headed for a big crash.

If you decide to run a webinar, do you know how that’s done?  What strategies and tactics would be the most fruitful?  Do you know how to influence registration numbers?  Be able to read the indicators that tell you if an ad campaign was a success?

What about your email marketing?  What’s the appropriate click rate you need?  Conversion rate?  Are you driving enough traffic from your Facebook ads?

These are only some of the numbers you need to know.  Starting a business is a lot like learning how to fly a plane, but most business owners feel they’re ready to jump into the cockpit without a single flying lesson.  And that’s where AWOL Academy comes in to play.
